Lynne Batty: I am a full-time public servant who, with John, moved from Governors Bay to Mapua in February 2015. We fell ‘in love’ with the Village during a summer camping holiday with family in 2012 and decided to build a home here. It’s been an adventure and we have met some great people – it’s such a friendly place. Cycling has more appeal now that I live in a ‘flatter’ environment and we are on the Great Taste Cycle Trail. I’m pretty good a putting flat pack furniture together – probably because I like puzzles – and I enjoy movies, reading and the company of my friends and family. Now that John has the pizza oven sorted I’ve become pretty proficient at making pizza dough so I’m looking forward to enjoying pizza and conversation with our guests.
John Fountain: I am a semi-retired academic, lover of the outdoors – cycling and sailing and walking – a keen gardener, small project DIYer, avid bridge player, book lover (too much love..too many books), movie buff, fly fisherman, parent and grandparent. I moved to New Zealand from Vancouver BC in 1976 …it’s a long story…best told to you over wine and a wood fired pizza around the pizza oven!
Lynne and I live next door and will be there to welcome you and to say goodbye when you leave. You will have complete privacy and only need interact with us if you choose to. We are always available to provide help and advice if you need it.
As we’re fairly new to Mapua (our houses were completed around April 2015) there is still some landscaping to be done. One of the things that inspired the layout for the two adjacent houses (ours and the holiday rental) was the decades of experience we have had camping at Totaranui in the Abel Tasman Park. The common fireplaces and picnic tables there form an inviting social space for people to gather for conversation, a drink, a meal….marshmallows over an evening fire. We’re working on developing similar social areas, such as an outdoor fire pit and BBQ area, for us and our guests to enjoy.
Here’s a fun “old” and “new” shot of your hosts:
