We have some of the best local wineries and craft breweries in New Zealand within a 5- 7 minute drive from Mapua and Ruby Bay…but it is still a 5-7 minute drive, and a bit of a grunt uphill on a bicycle (but fun coming home downhill)! And, with the new , very low alcohol limits for drivers (yes that includes you too cyclists!) , some people are disinclined to make the trip …. or if they do go, at least one of the party has to moderate their drinking considerably (don’t even ask what sort of “moderation” cycling visitors navigating the Great Taste Trail do!)
In the interests of making it a little easier and safer for our guests to access these fine eating and drinking establishments …and as an incentive for cycle tourists especially to make Mapua their base for great wining and dining – I’m going to offer guests who stay a minimum two nights safe transportation to the winery local or craft brewery of their choice in upper Moutere : Mahana, Neudorf, Kahurangi, Moutere Hills and the Moutere Inn and Rimu Grove right next door on the Bronte Peninsula.
Mahana winery has made a generous promotional offer – they will provide qualifying guests of Mapua41south with a free bottle of wine when accompanied by the purchase of two or more mains (limit $26 value on the bottle of wine). You’ll need a signed voucher from Mapua41south to take up that offer*. Do check out their cuisine -it looks sumptuous. Thank you Margaret at Mahana.
Moutere Hills winery has offered a 10% discount off wine and food purchases to qualifying Mapua41south guests – check out the their latest summer menu and cafe/bar facilities and hours (yes they are open some evenings) . You’ll need a signed voucher from Mapua41south to take up that offer*. Thanks to Rusty for this generous offer.
*Conditions apply . Only one voucher can be used at a time – eg customers can’t combine or aggregate discounts or promotions from more than one source. Also, my Rav 4 can only take a maximum of 4 people so the offer is limited to 4 guests max and one round trip to one tasting venue for each booking**, I’m not charging for these services at all, and the hours have to be “reasonable” – eg taking you up to one venue for an evening meal around 5-30 and picking you up around 8 , or perhaps on a 2-3 hour interval midday for a lunch or wine tasting at a winery. I’ll negotiate in a friendly way what is “reasonable” but I also reserve the right to have the final say. After all, I didn’t start up a holiday stay accommodation business to become a chauffeur! Still, I do want to create positive incentives for our guests , especially Great Taste Trail cycle guests, to stay with us, in Mapua, longer than one night. Hopefully making it easier to explore and sample the local wineries will be a sufficient incentive. I can take up to 6 bicycles one or both ways on my trailer if cycling one way is your preference.
ps ** I am applying for my P-license (passenger license) and if we can get a van for occasional or more regular use then of course we can take more guests up at one time …but that’s not likely to happen till next year sometime.
